ABOUT ME

Passionate About Inspiring Others

Hailing from Baie-Sainte-Anne, a picturesque rural Acadian community in Northumberland County, New Brunswick, Canada, Colette Martin is the proud mother of three wonderful adult sons. As a resilient survivor of domestic violence who has journeyed through the challenges of PTSD, Colette is passionately dedicated to helping others. Her deep-rooted connection to her Acadian heritage has profoundly influenced her mission and dedication.

Despite her personal struggles, Colette has quickly built a supportive and proactive community dedicated to raising awareness and educating others about critical issues, including domestic violence and missing and murdered Indigenous women. Her tireless advocacy and impactful work led to the passage of New Brunswick's Bill 17, the Disclosure to Protect Against Domestic Violence Act, in December 2022—a significant piece of legislation enacted in recognition of her efforts.

Colette has refused to let her trauma define her; instead, she has transformed her pain into a source of passion and power, ensuring that others do not face the same long and arduous healing journey she has endured. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed; in July 2023, Colette's inspiring story and work were featured in a poignant short documentary filmed in Waterloo, Ontario, titled "She Is Your Neighbour: A Short Documentary." This film highlights her relentless commitment to advocacy and the impactful change she has brought to her community and beyond.

Through her journey, Colette Martin has become a beacon of hope and a powerful advocate for change, demonstrating that resilience and compassion can lead to transformative community empowerment and support.
